Weekend Edition: Beyond Tech - An Escape to Chileno Bay (Cabo San Lucas)

Arrival: A Concierge Experience Like No Other

From the moment we arrived, Chileno Bay’s staff welcomed us with an unparalleled level of service. The concierge, led by Mauricio, ensured every detail of our stay was perfect, from arranging a car seat for our airport transfer to surprising us with birthday balloons in the room. Upon entry, Mauricio offered us their signature El Chilenito—a vibrant blend of mezcal, poblano pepper juice, bitters, and lime juice, which set the tone for a sophisticated yet welcoming experience. Traveling with a family here isn’t just easy; it’s delightful, with thoughtful amenities like a diaper genie and crib provided in our suite.

A Suite for the Whole Family

Our suite was a dream. It featured a private plunge pool, an expansive living room area, and a luxurious enclosed hallway connecting it to an adjacent room—a perfect setup for families or friends needing a blend of privacy and proximity. The bathrooms were stunning, each with a wet room and an outdoor shower. Because, really, when you’re in Mexico, an outdoor shower is essential! Expansive sliding glass doors allow you to be able to have indoor outdoor living in your suite. The suite offered easy to connect bluetooth speakers so you can enjoy your music and relax with a drink in your plunge pool. A very quick text to our concierge Mauricio, and we had strawberry margaritas sent to the room within 20 minutes. 

Infinity Pools with Unrivaled Views

The pool scene at Chileno Bay is a major highlight, boasting three expansive infinity pools that overlook the Sea of Cortez. Each pool is meticulously designed to provide a different experience, yet all share one thing in common: stunning, uninterrupted views of Cabo’s pristine coastline. The main pool area is perfect for relaxation, with shaded cabanas, plush lounge chairs, and attentive service offering refreshing drinks and snacks throughout the day. Whether you’re cooling off under the Cabo sun or taking in a sunset swim, the pools’ seamless edges make you feel like you’re floating on the horizon. For those seeking a quieter experience, the adult-only pool provides a serene escape, while the family pool offers a more lively environment that’s perfect for enjoying time with loved ones. All of the pools had expansive “Baja Shelves”, so you can comfortably relax in the water and children can safely play in the pool. No matter which pool you choose, each provides a perfect vantage point to soak in the beauty of Cabo’s rugged coastline.

The H2O Cave and Cabo’s Only Swimmable Beach

Chileno Bay has another unique feature: Cabo’s only swimmable beach. This stretch of sand, with its calm, inviting waters, is a rarity in a region known for strong currents. The beach feels exclusive and private, with gentle waves that are safe for swimmers of all levels. The resort’s H2O Cave offers everything you need for a day of adventure in these turquoise waters. You can rent high-end water equipment, such as e-foils and scuba gear, with the guidance of the resident experts, Donnie and Daniel. Their passion for the ocean is contagious, making each outing more than just an activity—it’s an experience. Whether you’re gliding above the water on an e-foil or exploring vibrant marine (sea turtles, reef sharks, & needlefish) life below, their enthusiasm ensures you’ll walk away with unforgettable memories.

TNT, Chileno Bay’s beachside taco bar, is all about fun, flavor, and authenticity. Just steps from the beach, it’s where guests come to indulge in tacos packed with juicy al pastor, crispy deep-fried shrimp, and fresh vegan options that showcase local farm flavors. The vibe is energetic and playful, with floating bartenders making rounds to the pools. Be sure to try the steak and shrimp taco while lounging at the pool with a margarita. 

The Spa and Gym: Restoring the Body and Mind

A big part of The Auberge Life is self-care, and Chileno Bay’s spa delivers this in spades. For anyone looking to recharge, the cold plunge pool is a must. It’s a refreshing, revitalizing experience, perfect after a long day of sun or a workout. Paired with a tailored massage, the spa is more than just a retreat—it’s a rejuvenation center. Immersed in the calm and tranquility, we found ourselves fully in the moment, which is a rarity in our fast-paced, tech-centric lives.

Agave Tasting: A Journey Through Mexico’s Spirit Heritage

The agave tasting experience at Chileno Bay is an art form. We were welcomed to an open air bar right outside of the restaurant YAYA overlooking the three pools and ocean. We were taken on a flavorful journey through Mexico’s rich spirit heritage, from Mezcals to Sotols and tequilas, each representing a different part of the country. The expert guide shared fascinating stories and origins of each spirit, enhancing the tasting with a historical perspective. It’s a blend of education and relaxation that leaves you feeling a little enlightened—and a little buzzed. While we ate, small bites from the restaurant YAYA were brought out to us. Amazing Mediterranean appetizers were constantly put in front of us while we enjoyed stories and history of Mexico's agave plants.

Culinary Delights at COMAL

Dining at COMAL was an unforgettable highlight. The resort’s signature restaurant, recently recommended by the Michelin Guide, features oceanfront seating that’s perfect for a leisurely meal with a view. COMAL takes pride in its fresh, locally sourced ingredients, and nowhere is this more evident than in their orange juice, made from orange trees owned by the resort. It’s a flavor you won’t find anywhere else. Standout dishes include the Wagyu Doraditas—an indulgent treat that’s as flavorful as it is unique—and a cocktail from the secret menu, Doña Juana. This blend of lime juice, Giffard, and Mezcal offers a subtle kick, perfect for unwinding into the evening. For breakfast they offer a wide range from french toast to Spanish steak and eggs and chilaquiles. 

A Quick Getaway to Cocina del Mar

A bonus of staying at Chileno Bay is the short trip to their sister property nearby, home to Cocina del Mar. Chileno Bay offers a free luxury shuttle to their sister property, Esperanza. Set on dramatic cliffs with views that stretch for miles, this restaurant provides a memorable dining experience where each bite is as breathtaking as the surroundings. A couple of our favorite dishes were the yellowtail sashimi, sauteed prawns and the catch of the day which was a full red snapper. Delicious! Both resorts are very aware of allergies and will customize anything you would like to order.
